I like the way Ogden thinks. It’s great to see our Utah communities progressing and Ogden has certainly progressed in its own unique way. Commerce all along the Wasatch Front is boiling hot and officials there know how to play on the community’s major strengths. If you’re looking for an Ogden home, now is a great time to buy.
This year Forbes Magazine named Ogden, Utah one of ‘America’s 20 Fastest Growing Cities.’
ABC 4 News recently reported on Mayor Mike Caldwell’s vision. Caldwell wants to make the Northern Utah city the cycling hub of the United States.
In the early to mid-2000s Ogden aggressively pursued ski equipment manufacturers. Former Mayor Matthew Godfrey wooed companies like Hart Ski Corp. The city plays on its excellent infrastructure and support services needed for commercial relocation.
Former Mayor Godfrey held tightly to the concept of clustering industries. The idea is bring multiple like businesses together to create “coopitition” instead of competition, theoretically making a particular industry more profitable.
Outdoor equipment manufacturers really have helped to rebrand Ogden. It would seem targeting cycling equipment manufacturers is the most logical next step.
Great Outdoors in Ogden Not New, Just in New Light
From downtown Ogden in Weber County residents are only 25 minutes away from two world-class ski resorts and five minutes away from a host of outdoor recreational opportunities including kayaking, rock climbing, fly fishing, bouldering, and mountain biking.
National Geographic recently named Ogden a “Top 10 Emerging Ski Town”:
“Long overshadowed by its larger cousin to the south, Ogden sits only 40 miles north of Salt Lake City’s international airport and its two primary mountains—Snowbasin and Powder Mountain—have the same ethereal powder as the heralded resorts in Cottonwood Canyon without the pesky crowds that track everything out by lunch. Spread across the lower flanks of the famed Wasatch Range, Ogden, population 82,825, has recently become a key Rocky Mountain hub for the outdoor industry—Salomon, Atomic, Rossignol, Scott, and Descente all have headquarters here.”
Ogden offers incentives to some businesses in their targeted cluster markets. It’s the sixth largest city in Utah. Ogden officials have branded the city the “center of high adventure recreation, commercial business, finance, arts and culture and education.’
“The road has already been paved. Utah is a home to cycling enthusiasts and one of the biggest races in the country. It’s also the headquarters of some of the biggest companies in the business like Quality Bike Products in Ogden,” ABC 4 News Reporter Kimberly Nelson said in her story filed April 16.
Companies such as Scott USA, 907 and all ENVE Composites have all set up shop in Ogden due, in part, to the presence of Quality Bike Products. The current mayor and economic development staff are even romancing companies in Taiwan.
